Between September 2022 and January 2023, Congress had spent a total of Rs 71.8 crore on Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra of 4000 km from Kanyakumari to Kashmir, which is 15.3 percent of its annual expenditure.

This amount is more than 30 percent of the total administrative and general expenses of the party during 2022-23. This information has been given in the latest annual audit report of the party filed with the Election Commission.

A TOI report said that Congress’s total income fell to Rs 452 crore in 2022-23 from Rs 541 crore in FY 2021-22, while its expenditure increased from Rs 400 crore to Rs 467 crore in the same period. .

According to the party’s audit report made public by the Election Commission on Wednesday, Congress’ total receipts through electoral bonds in 2021-22 were Rs 236 crore, which has come down to Rs 171 crore in 2022-23. This is 63% of its total donations and only 38% of its total income.

So far, the audit reports of five of the six national parties – AAP, BSP, CPM, National People’s Party and Congress – for the financial year 2022-23 have been made public by the Election Commission. BJP’s report has not come yet.

According to the audit report, Congress spent Rs 71.8 crore on travel and Rs 192.5 crore on elections in 2022-23. The expenditure on elections in the last financial year was Rs 279.5 crore.

The party’s administrative and general expenses saw a 161% increase compared to 2021-22. This year has seen a new initiative by the party in the form of yatras and a sharp increase in expenditure on pre-poll surveys.

More than Rs 40 crore has been spent on pre-poll surveys in 2022-23, which is Rs 23 lakh more than in 2021-22.
