India among top six countries in global 6G patent filings

New Delhi . After implementing 5G across the country in record time, India is working on 6G technology. The country tops in filing patents related to 6G. India has joined the top six countries in global 6G patent filing. Prime Minister Narendra Modi envisions India becoming a leading contributor to the design, development and deployment of 6G technology by 2030.

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has funded two next generation testbeds to advance 6G research. India could achieve a 10 per cent share in all 6G patents and a sixth contribution to global standards in the next three years, according to a committee led by the Modi government. The country has already launched various initiatives such as ‘Bharat 6G Vision’ and ‘Bharat 6G Alliance’ along with patent and IPR support framework and commissioning of testbeds.

According to business experts, the proliferation of both wireline and intelligent wireless broadband networks with reliable connectivity is important for India to become a leader in the technology. World telecommunication leaders, experts and academicians from over 190 countries are set to participate in the 10-day World Telecommunication Standardization Conference (WTSA-2024) to be held in India from October 14-24. For the first time in the 150-year history of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), ‘WTSA-2024’ is being organized in the national capital from October 14-24.
