Moscow. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov supported permanent representation in the UN Security Council for India, Brazil and African countries. According to the news of Russia’s state news agency, Lavrov said in an interview to AIF Online, India, Brazil as well as African countries should have got permanent representation in the Security Council a long time ago. A large population of the world lives in these countries, whose representation needs to be ensured.
India has been at the forefront of efforts over the years for various reforms of the Security Council, including increasing the number of permanent and non-permanent members. India says the 15-nation Security Council, established in 1945, is not fit for 21st century purposes and does not reflect contemporary geopolitical realities.
India says that it is also entitled to become a permanent member of the Security Council. Last month, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, US President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron supported India’s claim for permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
