India does not recognize Taliban government, appoints envoy to help Afghans; Who is Kamil?…

The Taliban government has appointed Ikramuddin Kamil as acting consul at the Afghan mission in Mumbai.

This information has been given by Afghan media. This is the first such appointment by the Taliban to any Afghan mission in India.

However, there was no immediate official comment from the Indian side on this appointment.

Meanwhile, sources said that the person who has been appointed has studied in India and has been appointed to help the Afghan citizens living in India.

Furthermore, regarding the recognition of the Taliban government, the Ministry of External Affairs said that there is a set process for recognizing any government, and India will continue to work with the international community on this issue.

News agency ANI quoted sources as saying that in the last three years, many Afghan diplomats working in Afghan Embassies and Consulates in India have taken refuge in Western countries and left India.

However, a former diplomat is still somehow handling the functioning of the Afghan Mission and Consulates while living in India.

There is a large number of Afghan community living in India, who are in need of consular services. Therefore, there is a need for more staff to meet the needs of Afghan nationals currently settled in India.

A young Afghan student has studied in India for seven years and completed his doctoral studies from the University of South Asia on an MEA scholarship, sources said.

He has agreed to work as a diplomat in this Consulate. Giving information about him, MEA said that he is an Afghan citizen, who is engaged in serving Afghan citizens in India.

Earlier on Monday, Taliban-controlled Bakhtar news agency, quoting unnamed sources, reported that Afghanistan’s Foreign Ministry has announced the appointment of Kamil as acting consul in Mumbai.

“He is currently in Mumbai, where he is discharging his duties as a diplomat representing the Islamic Emirate,” it said.

The media outlet said the appointment is part of Kabul’s efforts to strengthen diplomatic ties with India and increase its presence abroad.

Taliban Deputy Foreign Minister (Political Affairs) Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai also posted on social media platform ‘X’ about Kamil’s appointment.
