India’s DRDO is developing hypersonic missiles for defense forces.

Also, there are preparations to include long-range cruise and ballistic missiles like 2000 km range Nirbhay and 400 km range Pralay in the fleet.

Director General of the Indian Army’s Artillery Regiment, Lieutenant General A Kumar, said the focus is also on long-range rockets.

In the coming days, there is a plan to increase the range of indigenous Pinaka rockets to 300 kilometers. The Indian Army has received approval from the Defense Acquisition Council to acquire Pralay ballistic missile and Nirbhay missile.

Regarding the missile program, the Lieutenant General said, ‘Work on hypersonic missiles is also going on by DRDO. Our missile program is progressing at a good pace, for which research and development is being done by DRDO.

Its purpose is to increase the range, accuracy and lethality of ballistic and cruise missiles. He said that Pinaka is the success story of Atmanirbhar Abhiyan.

The devices have been exploited extensively. More firepower and lethality have been added to the artillery arsenal. More regiments of Pinaka are being inducted.

Work towards increasing accuracy and firepower

Lieutenant General A Kumar also gave an update about ammunition. He said that several improvements have been made to increase accuracy and lethality.

He said, ‘We are continuously engaged with industries and academia for the development of Sensor Fuzed Munition (SFM) and Course Correctable Fuze (CCF).’

To boost accuracy, the Lieutenant General said, ‘We are purchasing loiter munitions, swarm drones, runway independent RPAS and similar things.’

He said emphasis is being laid on strengthening intelligence and surveillance to increase transparency on the battlefield.

On the training of fire fighters, he said that steps have been taken to modernize the training and administrative infrastructure.

State-of-the-art physical training facilities have been set up and classrooms have been equipped with audio-visual training facilities.
