Indian Navy has once again shown its strength in the sea.

Indian Navy has successfully rescued a Sri Lankan ship from Somali pirates. This is the third successful operation of the Indian Navy in three days.

Earlier, the Navy displayed incredible courage in the Arabian Sea and rescued an Iranian ship from the clutches of Somali pirates.

Also, the entire ship including 19 Pakistani fishermen was saved.

The Navy said in a statement on Tuesday that it has successfully rescued a Sri Lankan ship hijacked by Somali pirates in cooperation with the Seychelles Defense Forces and the Sri Lanka Navy.

According to the Navy, the three pirates surrendered to the Seychelles Coast Guard, all six crew members are safe and the ship is being towed to Mahe in Seychelles.

Incidents of robbery in the oceans have been coming to light for quite some time now. The Navy had received information about the hijacking of a Sri Lankan flagged fishing vessel en route east of Mogadishu, Somalia.

It was learned that on January 27, three pirates boarded a fishing trawler and hijacked it.

The Navy deployed INS Sharda to assist on 28 January and tasked the Hell Sea Guardian to locate and intercept the hijacked Sri Lankan ship.

“Its team tracked the ship on January 29 with the help of Sri Lankan and Seychelles forces,” the Navy said in a statement. In this operation that lasted for some time, the team caught all three robbers. “This is the Navy’s third successful anti-piracy operation in the last three days.”

19 Pakistanis released
Earlier in the day, the Navy had said it rescued a crew of 19 Pakistani nationals from 11 Somali pirates in an operation.

On Monday, INS Sumitra foiled a piracy attempt on Iranian-flagged fishing vessel FV Iman.

The incident is the latest incident of piracy and missile or drone attacks on commercial vessels in the Arabian Sea since December last year.

Currently, about 10-12 Indian warships are deployed in the Arabian Sea, which include INS Kochi, INS Mormugao, INS Kolkata, INS Chennai and one other warship.
