Indian Railways has decided to re-employ retired officers to fill the vacant posts.
The Railway Board has approved the appointment of retired railway officials as consultants on vacant posts. The board issued a circular to all zonal railways and public sector undertakings on August 29.
It said that the re-appointment of retired railway officials will be valid only till December 31, 2026. Officials said, ‘The general manager of each zone has been asked to appoint retired officers as per the requirement. At least 100 of them will be hired under the re-arrangement.’
The circular said, ‘Some difficulties are being experienced by the zonal railways due to the vacant posts of gazetted officers.
Keeping this in mind, the board has taken this decision as per the requirements of the services. Under this, retired railway officers will be reappointed as consultants on the vacant posts.
In this, the General Managers have been given the authority to take retired railway officers back into service. 16 rules and conditions have been stated for this.
The maximum age limit has been fixed at 65 years
The Railway Board has fixed the maximum age limit for this at 65 years. It also said that the appointment of consultants will not be considered a case of reappointment.
These employees will be given 1.5 paid leaves every month. However, these leaves can neither be transferred further nor can the employees accumulate them.
Apart from this, after the completion of the contract, no additional payment will be given in lieu of these leaves. As is usually given to permanent employees during retirement.
It is known that the retired officers who are re-employed will not be entitled to HRA and government accommodation.
