Iran had planned to assassinate US President Donald Trump.
This has been said in a criminal complaint filed in the Federal Court of Manhattan.
According to this, an unnamed officer of Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard had given the responsibility of monitoring and assassinating Trump to a person named Farhad Shakiri.
Iran had made this plan in September itself and had intended to implement it within a week. Two people from New York were also involved in the conspiracy to assassinate Trump.
Farhad was also told that if he failed to do so in September, he would have to wait until the US elections were over.
Iran felt that Trump would lose the US presidential election. In such a situation, Trump will not have much security and it will be easy to kill him.
According to the complaint, Shaqiri told the FBI that the Iranian official had instructed him to plan the assassination within seven days.
Although he had not planned it then. The conspiracy to assassinate Trump has been revealed just a few days after his victory. It is noteworthy that Donald Trump was fatally attacked twice during the US presidential election campaign. Trump narrowly escaped during these attacks.
Along with Farhad, two people from New York were also involved in this conspiracy, 36-year-old Jonathan Lodholt and 49-year-old Carlisle Rivera.
Apart from all these, two Jewish businessmen living in America and an Iranian-American activist are also said to be involved in the conspiracy.
51-year-old Farhad Shakiri is originally Afghan. After spending 14 years in American prison in a robbery case, he was deported from there in 2008.
After this he joined the Iranian army. The US Justice Department has said that Rivera and Jonathan have been taken into custody. Meanwhile, Shaqiri is still free in Iran.
Why is Trump on target of Iran?
Iran wants to avenge the death of Iranian Major General and Quds Force commander Qasim Sulemani by killing Donald Trump.
Even after coming to power, Trump has expressed his dangerous intentions regarding Iran. In such a situation, Iran wants to eliminate Trump.
Who is Farhad Shakiri?
According to the information, Shaqiri came to America as a youth. However, the FBI did not reveal in which year he came to America.
Shaqiri met the conspirators in an American prison. The indictment claims that after his conviction in 1994, he was incarcerated in several state prisons, including Woodbourne Correctional Center.
Shaqiri was transferred to Beacon in 2005, where he met Rivera for the first time. Shaqiri lived in the United States until his deportation in 2008. According to New York Department of Corrections and Community Monitoring records, his parole supervision ended in 2015.
However, four years later he was detained again in Sri Lanka in connection with the seizure of 92 kg of heroin.
