Congress has suffered a crushing defeat in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections 2023.
Now the news is that due to the results, state president and veteran leader Kamal Nath has come under the target of party leaders.
It is being said that National President Mallikarjun Kharge has indicated that many party leaders do not want Kamal Nath to take charge of the state. However, possibilities were already being expressed that the 77-year-old leader may resign soon.
People knowledgeable about the matter are saying that Kharge has also expressed disappointment over the performance of Congress in MP. According to experts, on Tuesday itself Nath met Kharge and Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi in Delhi.
A senior Congress leader says that during the meeting, Kharge said that a consensus is being formed in the party that Kamal Nath should no longer continue on the post of MP chief.
“It remains to be seen whether he resigns now or it will take some time,” said a leader on condition of anonymity.
But the high command has made it clear that he will have to step down. The special thing is that this is the worst performance of Congress in a decade. The party could win only 66 seats out of 230. Whereas, Bharatiya Janata Party, which lost the elections in 2018, got 163 seats.
Why did Congress lose?
Many central and state level leaders of Congress are also raising questions on the party’s campaign. He believes that most of the time in the state was spent in personal comments only.
A senior leader, on the condition of anonymity, said, ‘Congress made many announcements like free education for women and students, which can benefit us. It seems that Kamal Nath and Digvijay Singh spent more time on negative campaigning.
Now a leader says that there should be some accountability in MP. Whereas, one argued that youth leadership should be promoted in the state. He cites Telangana for this.
Bharat Rashtra Samithi (earlier TRS) has lost power in Telangana for the first time since its formation in 2014. Congress won a clear majority in the south Indian state. Here Revanth Reddy is going to take oath as the Chief Minister.
