Two days ago, Iran carried out a drone attack on the residence of Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu.
Luckily Netanyahu and his wife were not at home and he escaped. Now Israeli police have arrested seven citizens on charges of spying for the enemy.
One of the accused was an Israeli Army soldier. Police officials say that the accused were collecting intelligence information for Iran for the greed of money.
They were handing over information about Israel’s military bases and nuclear weapons and ammunition to Iran. The seven are from the Israeli city of Haifa and northern areas of the country.
Officials said they completed about 600 missions in two years at the behest of Iranian agents.
“The Internal Security Agency and police have busted an espionage network involving seven Israeli citizens who were working on behalf of Iranian intelligence,” Israeli police said in a statement on Monday. All seven have been arrested. “This network was engaged in collecting sensitive information on IDF (military) bases and energy infrastructure,” it said.
Many missions were carried out at the behest of Iranian agents
Police said the Israeli investigation revealed that the group conducted several missions over a two-year period under the direction of two Iranian agents named “Alkhan and Orkhan.”
“The accused knew that the intelligence they provided could jeopardize national security and potentially help the enemy in its missile attacks,” police said.
All the suspects are residents of Haifa and the northern region who immigrated from Azerbaijan. These also include a soldier who had fled the army.
Apart from this, two minors aged 16-17 years are also included. Officials said he completed about 600 missions in two years.
IDF collects secrets of Iron Dome nuclear plant
“The accused conducted extensive missions at IDF bases across the country, obtaining classified information on Air Force and Navy installations, ports, Iron Dome System locations and energy infrastructure such as the Hadera Power Plant,” police said.
An official of Israel’s Internal Security Agency said, “We have seized material collected by the accused for Iranian agents.
These included photographs and videos of several IDF bases, ports, and energy infrastructure across Israel.
“It has been assessed whether these activities have caused security damage to the state or not?”
The action taken by the Israeli police on Monday to expose spies within the country comes after a drone attack was carried out on the house of PM Benjamin Netanyahu two days ago.
Israel gave a statement that it was fortunate that Netanyahu and his wife were not present at that time.
The Israeli Intelligence Department is also finding out whether these accused are connected to the drone attack on Netanyahu’s house?
Let us tell you that Israel is currently engaged in a multi-front conflict with Iran-backed groups like Hezbollah in Lebanon, Hamas in Gaza and Houthi rebels in Yemen.
Israel has also vowed to retaliate against the missile attack by Tehran on October 1.
