Israel carried out airstrikes targeting Iranian military bases on Saturday morning.
This action has been taken in response to a ballistic missile attack on October 1. According to officials, there was no immediate information about the damage caused in Iran.
The Israeli military described the operation as a “precision strike on military targets in Iran.” However, he did not give any further information.
“The Iranian regime and its proxies in the region have been carrying out sustained attacks on Israel on seven fronts since October 7,” the Israeli military statement said. This also includes direct attacks from Iranian soil. Israel, like all other sovereign countries in the world, has the right to respond. This is also our duty.”
An IDF spokesman said Israel’s defense and offensive capabilities were fully operational. “We will do whatever is necessary to protect Israel and its people,” he said.
Iran can also retaliate
Earlier, Iran’s leaders had ordered their armed forces to be prepared for war in the event of a possible Israeli attack.
Officials said the extent of the response would largely depend on the severity and scale of those attacks. The ‘New York Times’ had given this information citing four unidentified Iranian officials.
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has instructed the army to prepare several plans to respond to a possible Israeli attack, the newspaper reported on Thursday.
Iranian officials said Iran would retaliate if Israeli strikes resulted in mass destruction. Khamenei reportedly said that Iran’s response would be inevitable if Israel targeted critical infrastructure or high-ranking officials.
Order to launch 1000 missiles
Possible retaliation could include launching up to a thousand missiles, escalating regional attacks by pro-Iran groups and disrupting energy supplies through the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.
On October 1, Iran launched a major missile attack on Israel for the second time in history, calling it an act of self-defense.
According to the Israeli military, about 180 ballistic missiles were fired, most of which were intercepted. According to Israeli officials, the shelling caused no harm to the country’s civilians.
The Iranians claimed that the missiles struck Israeli military targets, while the Israelis described the damage as minimal. The Jewish state has vowed to retaliate.
