Beirut. India has expressed concern over the increasing tension on the Lebanon-Israel border. Israeli forces attacked UNIFIL’s base, injuring two people. UNIFIL, or United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, is a peacekeeping force that works to maintain peace between Lebanon and Israel.
India has condemned the attack and said that the sanctity of the Joint Council should be respected by all. The Foreign Ministry said in the statement that we are closely monitoring the situation. Around 600 Indian soldiers are part of the UN force and are deployed on the Lebanon-Israel border.
China has also condemned the attack and demanded an investigation. Italy has said such actions could constitute a war crime. America has also expressed deep concern over this incident. UNIFIL stated that the Israeli military had informed them of its intention to conduct limited ground operations in Lebanon. UNIFIL has urged all parties to reduce tensions. This incident occurred amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Lebanon-based Hezbollah. Israeli forces opened fire at three locations, one of which was the UNIFIL compound.
