Israel Iran War: Israeli airstrikes targeted the northern Lebanese city of Tripoli for the first time on Saturday morning, according to Lebanese security sources. The incident follows recent bombings in the suburbs of Beirut, where Hezbollah has alleged that Israeli forces were attempting to infiltrate the southern Lebanese city of Odaiseh. Additionally, the status of Hashem Saffieddine, who is seen as a potential successor to late Hezbollah leader Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah and was reportedly targeted in earlier attacks in Beirut, remains uncertain.
Tension is increasing due to war:
In the context of rising tensions, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi issued a warning on Friday, saying that any action taken by Israel against Iran will be met with a retaliatory measure that will exceed previous responses. The Israeli military has reported killing about 250 Hezbollah fighters since it began its ground campaign in Lebanon earlier this week. More than 2,000 people have been killed and more than 9,000 wounded in Lebanon’s year-long cross-border war, most of them in the past two weeks.
India is keeping a close eye on the ongoing conflicts:
Given its vital interests in the West Asian region, India is keeping a close eye on the situation and has expressed concern about a possible war between Iran and Israel. Prime Minister Narendra Modi called a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security on Thursday to discuss the recent rise in violence, PTI reported. The Ministry of External Affairs stressed the importance of preventing regional spillover of conflict and advocated resolution of issues through dialogue and diplomatic efforts.
