Tel Aviv. Israeli forces have penetrated 48 kilometers into Lebanon, resulting in Hezbollah fighters fleeing the area. However, some fighting continues between the Lebanese Army and remnant Hezbollah fighters. About one million people have fled the region due to this conflict, which has almost wiped out the local population.
The Israeli army has established its influence throughout southern Lebanon. Israel’s National Security Cabinet has described this operation as the next phase of the fight against Hezbollah. This is the fourth incursion by Israeli forces into Lebanese soil in 50 years, and the first since the 34-day war in 2006. Israel is presenting this as a limited ground operation, in which the help of the Air Force is also being taken. The way for the ground forces is being cleared through sky bombing and missiles. Israel has made it clear that it will not occupy Lebanon for long, but Israel has also not explained what its real intention is. By October 1, Israeli forces had liberated two dozen villages in southern Lebanon from Hezbollah control. The Israeli army has increased activity along the entire Lebanese border through small attacks. However, Hezbollah spokesman Mohammed Afif has rejected the Israeli military’s claims.
