Beirut. The Israeli army was surprised to see Hezbollah’s weapons stockpile. Israeli troops in southern Lebanon have found more Russian weapons than expected in Hezbollah’s possession. In a media report, The Wall Street Journal quoted Syrian security officials and an Arab official as saying that these weapons have been supplied by Russia for years. However, it is not clear how the weapons reached the Lebanese Hezbollah boys.
In the Syrian civil war, both Russia and Hezbollah were fighting on the side of Syrian President Bashar Assad. The report says that the Israeli army has found a large number of dangerous weapons. These weapons increase Hezbollah’s ability to attack Israeli soldiers. A key IDF commander reported that in the early days of the ground offensive against Hezbollah, 60–70 percent of the weapons found were Russian-made.
The report also said that among the weapons found in Hezbollah’s possession were recently manufactured Kornet anti-tank guided missiles. The governments of Russia and Syria have maintained silence on this while the Israeli PM Office has refused to comment on it. Despite the presence of Russian troops in Syria, Israel has tried to maintain positive relations with Russia. On the other hand, Russia has been criticizing Israeli action in Gaza.
Israel’s deputy foreign minister has proposed giving Ukraine Russian weapons seized by the IDF in Lebanon, the Gaza Strip or the West Bank. The Ambassador of Ukraine has praised it. The chances of this bill being passed are negligible. It decides that Russian-made weapons seized in Lebanon or the Palestinian Authority territories are not necessary for Israel’s defense. These should be given to Ukraine. The Israeli government has refused to supply arms to Ukraine throughout the war.
