Israeli soldiers destroyed copies of the Quran kept in a mosque in Gaza.
Hamas has complained about this to the organizations of Arab and Muslim countries. It has also condemned this incident. Hamas has called upon Muslim countries to express anger on this issue.
“The burning of copies of the Quran and the desecration and destruction of mosques confirm the hateful and criminal actions of Israeli soldiers. We cannot tolerate this,” Hamas said in a statement on Saturday.
Al Jazeera Arabic also broadcast footage from Israeli soldiers’ cameras. The viral video shows them tearing the Muslim holy book, the Quran, and burning it at the Bani Saleh Mosque in northern Gaza.
The same channel also published a video taken by an Israeli drone bombing the historic Grand Mosque in Khan Younis.
According to the Gaza government media office, Israel has completely destroyed 610 mosques and three churches in Gaza in the past 10 months.
On Saturday, Hamas called on the free people of the world to protect Muslim and Christian holy sites in Palestine and act to end the war against the Gaza Strip.
Let us tell you that so far more than 40,200 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks. Large parts of Palestine have turned into rubble.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations said the desecration of copies of the Quran and the targeting of mosques in Gaza prove that Israel’s war on the Palestinian people in Gaza is also a war against Islam.
The group also called on United States President Joe Biden to condemn Israel’s abuses.
“The Biden administration must condemn this religious outrage and suspend weapons transfers to the Israeli government to end its campaign of genocide and starvation in Gaza,” CAIR Executive Director Nihad Awad said in a statement.
Last month, Israel attacked people gathered to pray near a destroyed mosque in the Shanti refugee camp in northern Gaza, killing at least 20 people.
Israeli soldiers have repeatedly been accused of desecrating Muslim holy sites. In December last year, Israeli troops read Jewish prayers and Hanukkah songs from the stage of a mosque in Jenin in the occupied West Bank.
