New Delhi. Israel has been carrying out a series of attacks on Lebanon for the past two days. In the last two days, Israel has targeted Hezbollah by using various electronic devices, from pagers to walkie-talkies, laptops, solar panels and radios as weapons. Till now, Israel’s intelligence agency Mossad was being held responsible for these attacks. But now the name of Israel’s Unit 8200 is also coming to the fore in the attack.
Preparations for Operation Lebanon were being made for almost a year. Unit 8200 played a very important role in this operation. The pagers were ordered by Hezbollah. Unit 8200 was responsible for fitting explosives in those pagers.
Unit 8200 is one of Israel’s most secret and high-tech military units. This unit has been in the news globally due to its role in high-profile intelligence operations and cyber warfare. Unit 8200 is actually a part of the Israeli Army Israel Defense Forces, whose work is related to technical warfare, intelligence meetings and cyber security. It is considered more secret than Mossad. It works by collecting intelligence and making strategies accordingly. It is often compared to the US National Security Agency. This unit also trains young soldiers to do complex intelligence work, including hacking, encryption and surveillance. Israel’s best security personnel are recruited in this unit. This unit is known for out-of-the-box thinking, technical expertise and innovation. People who have served in this unit have later played an important role in setting up Israel’s high-tech industries like Orca Security.
Unit 8200 has been involved in many major operations. This unit is believed to have played a major role in ruining Iran’s nuclear program. It is said that this unit had prepared a virus, using which this unit attacked Iran’s nuclear plants. This virus used to burn the centrifuges installed in the nuclear plants from inside. Iran was not aware of this for a long time. Apart from this, Unit 8200 saved a plane going from United Arab Emirates to Australia from being hijacked in 2018.
The pagers which blasted in Lebanon and Syria, a beep sound was heard for a few seconds before the blast. Some pagers blasted in the pocket itself while some people blasted as soon as they took the pager out of their pocket or bag after hearing the beep sound. Many pagers exploded in people’s hands. 12 people died in this blast, including a small girl. 4000 people were seriously or slightly injured due to the blast. Many people’s hands and legs were damaged. More than 500 people lost their eyes. Some people’s torso was damaged while some people’s lower body was blown off in the blast. Iran’s ambassador to Lebanon Mojtaba Amani lost one eye while his other eye was badly damaged. Among the dead are children of Lebanese MPs and families of Hezbollah fighters also came under the grip of the blasts. Similarly, on Wednesday, blasts were caused in everything from walkie-talkies to solar panels, laptops and radios. 20 people were killed in these attacks while the number of injured was 450.
