Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) had created history by landing Chandrayaan-3 on the South Pole of the Moon.
India is the first country in the world to do so. Also the fourth country in the world to land an unmanned spacecraft on the moon. After Chandrayaan-3, ISRO is going to launch many missions in the space sector in the coming years.
It also has Gaganyaan mission along with Chandrayaan-4 and Antriksh space station. ISRO chief S Somnath on Monday gave great news on India’s Gaganyaan mission.
Gaganyaan, the country’s first manned space flight program, is likely to be launched by the end of 2026, he said during an event.
S Somnath said the first unmanned test flight of the rocket under the Gaganyaan mission will begin early next year.
Let us tell you that the objective of the Gaganyaan project is to demonstrate India’s human space flight capability by sending astronauts to an orbit 400 kilometers above the Earth for a three-day mission.
After this, they will be safely landed in the ocean and brought back to Earth. If this indigenous space project costing Rs 90 billion is successful, India will become the fourth country to send humans to space after the Soviet Union, America and China.
Good news on Gaganyaan from next year
Speaking to the media during an event at IIT-Guwahati, S Somnath said, “We have been working on the Gaganyaan project for the last four years.
Our rocket is completely ready. Tasting lunching will start early next year. “We wanted to do it in December this year, but due to technical difficulties the schedule is being pushed forward.”
The ISRO chairman said three more launches would be conducted before the crewed flight in late 2026. “Under the first launch, we will send a robot named Vyommitra with the spacecraft. This launch will take place early next year. After that we will do two more similar launches. Once all three launches are successful, we will launch the final mission. All astronauts are ready. We aim to launch Gaganyaan by the end of 2026.”
It is noteworthy that in February, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced the names of four astronauts, who are training for the human space flight mission.
The passengers who flew under the Gaganyaan mission are Group Captain Prashant Balakrishnan Nair, Angad Pratap, Ajit Krishnan and Wing Commander Shubhanshu Shukla.
Also gave update on Chandrayaan-4
Somnath also spoke on Chandrayaan 4. He said, “The central government has given its approval for Chandrayaan 4. Chandrayaan-4 will go to the same point where Chandrayaan-3’s rover is. We will see how we can go there, bring some samples back to Earth. This mission will have two tasks, one – bring back the samples and two – go to the Moon and come back.”
He further said, “But unfortunately we do not have a rocket for this. The mass of the satellite going to the Moon is very high. “Before going to the Moon, we will have to do two launches, under which two satellites will be connected in space.”
Somnath further said that this is the first time that India will carry out such a mission. “Nobody has done anything like this before… So, we hope to be the first country to do such a complex thing,” he said.
