Speaking to the media at the beginning of the winter session of Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed to all the MPs to have healthy discussions in Parliament. Targeting the opposition, he accused them of not allowing discussion in Parliament. The Prime Minister said that ‘this is the last period of the year 2024.’ The country is preparing to welcome 2025 with full zeal and enthusiasm. This session of Parliament is special in many ways. Now the biggest thing is that the journey of 75 years of our Constitution, its entry into the 75th year, is in itself a very bright opportunity for democracy.
‘A handful of people are trying to control the Parliament’
The Prime Minister said, ‘Tomorrow everyone will come together in the Constituent Assembly to start the celebration of the 75th year of this Constitution. While drafting the Constitution, the makers of the Constitution debated each and every point in great detail, only then we have received such an excellent document. Its important unit is our Parliament. Our MPs and our Parliament too. There should be healthy discussion in Parliament, more and more people should contribute to the discussion. Unfortunately, for their own political interests, some people, who have been rejected by the public, are continuously trying to control even the Parliament through the racketeering of a handful of people. Their own objective is no more successful than stopping the activities of the Parliament and the people of the country see all their behavior and when the time comes, they also punish them. The most painful thing is that some people suppress the rights of the new MPs who bring new ideas and new energy. They do not get a chance to speak in the House.
‘Those who are rejected by the public, they do not allow discussion in Parliament’
‘In the democratic tradition, the work of every generation is to prepare the next generation, but those who have been continuously rejected by the public 80-90 times, neither allow discussion in Parliament nor respect the spirit of democracy. Nor do they understand the aspirations of the people. The result is that they never live up to public expectations. Due to this the public has to reject him again and again.
PM Modi said, ‘Friends, after the general elections in this House of Democracy, the people of the country have got the opportunity to express their feelings and views at some places in their respective states. In that too, the results of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections have been given more strength and the scope of support has increased. It is a condition of democracy that we respect the sentiments of the people and work hard continuously to live up to their expectations. I have repeatedly been requesting my opposition colleagues and some of the opposition also behave responsibly to ensure smooth functioning of the House, but those who have been repeatedly rejected by the public, disrespect the sentiments of their colleagues as well. Disrespects the sentiments of democracy. I hope that our new colleagues get opportunities, there are new colleagues in all the parties, they have new ideas, new imaginations to take India forward.
‘We have to live up to the expectations of the public’
The Prime Minister said that ‘while sitting in the Parliament, all of us will have to live up to the sentiments of the public. The need of the hour is to atone for the time we have lost. Let us discuss in Parliament in a very healthy manner. The coming generations will read it and take inspiration from it. I hope this session is very productive. It should strengthen India’s global dignity, it should strengthen new MPs and ideas. With this feeling, I once again welcome all the MPs with enthusiasm and excitement.
