External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Sunday took a dig at the United Nations, saying that it is like an old company which is not keeping pace with the market but is occupying space.
If it is not improved soon, it will lose its importance. The External Affairs Minister also referred to recent global events in the context of the United Nations and said that at present two very serious conflicts are going on in the world.
It is the responsibility of the United Nations to ensure that any conflict does not spread too much, but the United Nations is not seen anywhere on these incidents, it is only seen commenting sometimes like a spectator.
Speaking at the Kautilya Economic Conclave, S Jaishankar said that the United Nations is not changing itself with the changing global scenario.
It has become like an old company, which has no coordination with the market.
If it does not play its role better, then a vacuum situation is created in which countries start working according to their own.
He said that if we talk about the last 10 years only, the United Nations was not seen anywhere on any major issue.
United Nations is not visible on important occasions- Jaishankar
Even during the Covid era, the role of the United Nations appeared negligible. If we look at other countries of the world, they faced this epidemic according to their respective capacities.
Recently two biggest conflicts are going on in the world but the United Nations is nowhere to be seen in stopping it.
He said that an organization like the United Nations is not playing its role well, hence we are seeing that different regional groups are coming forward.
He said that if this continues, the United Nations will remain but it will soon lose its importance.
Only SCO meeting during Pakistan tour
The External Affairs Minister also talked about his upcoming visit to Pakistan. He said that I am going there to attend a meeting.
Being a member country of SCO, it is also a responsibility and I take my responsibilities seriously.
Even on Saturday, the Foreign Minister had said that I am going there to participate in the meeting and not to talk about India-Pakistan relations.
Foreign Minister S Jaishankar is going to Pakistan this month to attend the SCO meeting. Before this, former External Affairs Minister of India Sushma Swaraj had visited Pakistan in 2015.
