‘Kalyan Singh do welfare, build the temple’, how one slogan made BJP a party of Ram devotees…

Today is the 92nd birth anniversary of Kalyan Singh, the big face of the Ram Mandir movement and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. He became CM of UP twice and people

Kalyan Singh never compromised on principles to remain in office. The journey from being an inter college teacher to becoming the Chief Minister and Governor was full of thorns for him.

When Bharatiya Janata Party was formed, Kalyan Singh was made an officer in the state organization. He started breathing life into the Ram Mandir movement.

Due to his activism, BJP got a lot of strength in UP. In the 90s, the country’s politics started revolving around Mandal and Kamandal.

Assembly elections were held in the year 1991 and BJP formed the government in Uttar Pradesh. Kalyan Singh was made the Chief Minister. He emerged as a great hope for Ram temple.

During this, a slogan was given by the youth of the state – ‘Kalyan Singh, do welfare, build the temple.’ This slogan became very popular and its echo was heard throughout UP. At that time, Kalyan Singh’s image was created as a youth icon in UP. It is said that this gave BJP recognition as a party of Ram devotees.

What order did Kalyan Singh give to DGP?
It is known that in 1992, when Kalyan was the Chief Minister, Kar Sevaks demolished the controversial Babri structure. On December 6, 1996, the then CM Kalyan Singh was sitting at his residence watching TV.

During this time, cabinet colleagues Lalji Tandon and OP Singh were present with him. The then DGP of the state reached CM Kalyan Singh’s residence to meet him.

Kalyan gave them permission to use sticks and tear gas shells. But, clearly refused permission to fire on the kar sevaks. By the time any action was taken by the DGP, the Babri structure had been demolished.

Resigned from the post of CM after the collapse of Babri structure
Kalyan Singh proudly took responsibility for the entire incident and sacrificed his government with full majority for the Ram Mandir movement.

He submitted his resignation from the post of Chief Minister. Addressing the gathering after Babri demolition, he said, ‘I was the CM of UP. I take full responsibility for what happened.

When the structure collapsed, I paid the price. Resigned from the post of Chief Minister. Will anyone else kill us now? If the government has to sacrifice one or 10 times for the sake of building Ram temple, we will do it.
