Large-scale search operation continues in Manipur to search for missing person, statement of CM Biren Singh

A 55-year-old man from the Meitei community, who worked at an army camp in Manipur, had gone missing. The man’s disappearance sparked tension in parts of Imphal West district bordering Kangpokpi on Tuesday. It is being told that the youth remained missing for more than 24 hours.

Giving information about the case, officials had said that Laishram Kamalbabu Singh, a resident of Loitang Khunau village of Imphal West, had left home on Monday afternoon to go to work at Limakhong military camp in Kangpokpi and has been missing since then. His mobile phone is also switched off. A police officer of Kangpokpi district said, a joint search operation has been launched in the area by the police and central forces.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh said the central and state governments have launched a massive search operation in Jiribam and its surrounding areas to nab those responsible for the recent incidents and the operation will continue until No case is registered against the culprits.

Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, the Chief Minister discussed the decision of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) legislature platform to send a proposal to the central government for implementation. Which includes removal and transfer of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) from six new police stations.

Let us tell you that Limakhong is located on the border of Kuki-dominated Kangpokpi and Meitei-dominated Imphal West. Following the incident, a large number of protesters, mostly women, took to the streets on Tuesday morning, blocking roads and demanding answers about his whereabouts.

This incident may again worsen the law and order situation. Meitei people have been asked not to block any road as it is hampering the search operation. The person has not been seen coming out anywhere in the CCTV cameras, so police and army officials are investigating the premises. Both the armies are again checking the CCTV cameras.
