Islamabad. Thousands of workers of jailed former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) marched towards Islamabad on Sunday. PTI has called on people to join the protest to break the chains of slavery. PTI workers will stage a protest at D-Chowk in Islamabad.
Lockdown like situation in Islamabad
The country’s Home Minister Mohsin Naqvi said that Islamabad will be protected at all costs. Imran’s wife Bushra Bibi and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin have left for Islamabad from Peshawar with the Gandapur group. The Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is leading the protest. There is a lockdown like situation in the capital Islamabad which has become a cantonment.
Army deployed at every nook and corner
Paramilitary forces and other security personnel have been deployed at various places. Along with sealing major roads, mobile and internet services have been suspended in many areas. Police are not allowing anyone to enter Islamabad. Police arrested 16 people who were entering Islamabad from Faizabad in Rawalpindi.
PTI workers have demonstrated violently several times
After Imran’s ouster from power, PTI workers have created trouble several times through protests. This time the workers are equipped with bulldozers and heavy machines to remove the barricades. On Saturday night, the police fired at the barricade removal machines and tried to set them on fire, but alert PTI workers foiled the police attempt. There was uproar over Imran’s arrest also
After Imran’s arrest in 2023, his supporters carried out large-scale vandalism and arson. Once Imran, who was coming to Islamabad to protest, was hit by bullets. Even during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting, PTI had created an awkward situation by calling for a protest.
