‘Lost candidates won, Pakistan elections were rigged’, officer resigns…

Allegations of rigging in Pakistan’s general elections seem to be proven true.

A senior Pakistani bureaucrat claimed that the Chief Election Commissioner and the Chief Justice were involved in this rigging. He also resigned from his post, taking responsibility for all these wrongdoings.

Former Rawalpindi Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chattha took this step at a time when jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan has been continuously claiming rigging in the elections.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party has launched nationwide protests against theft of mandate in the February 8 elections. Speaking at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Chattha said that even the defeated candidates were made to win the election.

Liaquat Ali Chattha said, ‘I take responsibility for these wrongdoings. However, the Chief Election Commissioner and the Chief Justice have also been fully involved in this.

According to Dawn report, Chattha resigned from his post, taking responsibility for the manipulation of election results. He said that backstabbing of the country is not letting him sleep.

Chattha said, ‘I deserve punishment for the injustice I did. Other people have also been involved in this injustice and they should also be punished.

The former bureaucrat claimed that there was so much pressure on him that he even contemplated suicide. But, he decided to give complete information about the matter to the public.

Election Commission rejected Chattha’s allegations
On the other hand, the Election Commission of Pakistan has rejected the allegations made by Chattha against the Chief Election Commissioner. A statement issued by the ECP said, ‘The Election Commission of Pakistan rejects the allegations made by the Commissioner of Rawalpindi against the Chief Election Commissioner or the Election Commission.

No Election Commission official issued any instructions to change the results. It said that the commissioner of any division is not appointed as DRO, RO or presiding officer. Also, they never play a direct role in the conduct of elections. However, these allegations will be investigated further.
