New Delhi. Maldivian President Mohammed Muizzu is expected to visit India on October 7. India and Maldives have been preparing for Muizzu’s expected visit since early September. This will be Muizzu’s second visit to India after the swearing-in ceremony of PM Modi.
In the media report, while giving information about Muizzu’s visit to India, the Chief Spokesperson of the President’s Office said that the resignations of two ministers who had made derogatory remarks on PM Modi have been taken. Earlier this year, the deputy ministers of the Maldives’ youth ministry were suspended for posting derogatory remarks against PM Modi on social media. New Delhi had raised this matter strongly. After Modi’s visit to Lakshadweep, Maldives’ deputy ministers had criticized PM Modi on social media platforms.
Relations between India and Maldives had become strained in November last year after Muizzoo became inclined towards China when he took over as the President of Maldives. Muizzu had requested India to withdraw around 90 Indian military personnel operating three aviation platforms gifted by the country. India withdrew its military personnel and replaced them with civilian personnel to operate the Dornier aircraft and two helicopters.
