Mamata Banerjee on Sunday announced her candidates for the elections for four Rajya Sabha seats.
This time, ignoring Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Mamata Banerjee has given ticket to journalist Sagarika Ghosh from the professional quota.
This is being seen as a big setback for Congress. In fact, earlier, despite Congress having less MLAs, Mamata Banerjee had sent lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi to Rajya Sabha by getting support from her MLAs.
This is another big blow for the Congress amid reports of disintegration in the INDI alliance. At the same time, Mamata Banerjee has also tried to solve the equations of Lok Sabha elections through four candidates.
Keeping the Lok Sabha elections in mind, Mamata Banerjee has decided to send journalist Sagarika Ghosh, Rajya Sabha MP Sushmita Dev, Mamata Bala Thakur from Matua community and former Rajya Sabha MP Mohammad Nadimul Haq to the Rajya Sabha.
Rajya Sabha elections are to be held on 27 February. To woo women voters, Mamata Banerjee has given tickets to three out of four women. Two names have also been announced to help Matua and minorities.
Sushmita Dev said, I thank West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. He has once again given me an opportunity for Rajya Sabha. I am grateful to him.
By giving ticket to Mamata Bala Thakur, Mamata Banerjee has played a big bet for the 2024 elections. The name of Matua leader Mamta Thakur is important because recently Amit Shah had announced that CAA will be implemented before the Lok Sabha elections.
In such a situation, Mamata Banerjee is trying to woo the Matua community. In the last Lok Sabha elections, Mamata Thakur was given ticket against Shantanu Thakur. He had to face defeat against BJP’s Shantanu.
Instead of supporting Congress’s Abhishek Manu Singhvi, this time Mamata Banerjee decided to send journalist Sagarika Ghosh to Rajya Sabha, who is not even a TMC member.
It is being told that due to not being able to reach a deal with Congress regarding seat distribution, he sidelined Singhvi. Talking about Congress, only 10 seats are visible in its account.
In such a situation, it is becoming difficult to satisfy everyone even within the Congress party. Sources say that this time Sonia Gandhi can also go to Rajya Sabha.
