Kolkata. Mamata Banerjee government of West Bengal constituted a state level task force to decide the safety of doctors and health workers in the state. This task force will be headed by Chief Secretary Manoj Pant, which will include senior police officers and Health Secretary and other officials. Besides, representatives from doctors and students have also been included.
This task force will do work like improving the quality of health services, strengthening the infrastructure in hospitals and increasing security. Systems like on-duty room, CCTV surveillance, mobile police surveillance, and centralized helpline have been included in this.
The task force has been formed keeping in mind the demands of junior doctors, who were on a hunger strike for 17 days after the rape and murder of a female doctor in Kolkata. Their strike ended on October 21 after discussions with CM Mamata Banerjee. After this the doctors also withdrew their proposed health strike. Junior doctors have announced a mass conference at RG Kar Hospital on 26th October.
