Many injured in student union election violence, 10 accused arrested – NNSP

Violence broke out during student union elections in Itanagar, the capital of Arunachal Pradesh. Many people have been injured in this violence. Police have arrested 10 people in cases of violence. Many policemen were also injured during the violence. The sounds of firing are still being heard in the hilly areas.

Actually, counting of votes was taking place on Monday for the All Nyashi Students Union (ANSU) elections in Arunachal Pradesh. During the counting of votes, there was a dispute between two groups and this dispute turned into a fight. Superintendent of Police (Capital) Rohit Rajbir Singh said that during the counting of votes at around 9 pm on Monday night, a clash took place between supporters of two candidates in Siddharth Hall. He said that sharp weapons and sticks were used in the clash, in which five people were injured.

Police said that during the violence there was firing from both sides, which worsened the situation. The police also fired tear gas shells and lathicharged the crowd to control the situation. At present the situation is under control, but incidents of sporadic firing are still going on from the hilly areas. Many policemen have been injured in this violence. When the injured in the violence were admitted to the hospital, both the groups clashed in the hospital, due to which the injured were forced to flee.

Police have registered a case under sections of BNS and Arms Act. At present the situation is under control and counting of votes is going on. Efforts are being made to identify the people involved in the firing and violence. It is noteworthy that ANSU, formed in the year 1982, is one of the largest student organizations of the North-East.
