Washington. The Quad group meeting is taking place in the US. The establishment of this group is the result of the thinking of US President Joe Biden. In view of the presidential elections to be held in November, the question arises whether the new president will continue this group. In this context, Joe Biden put his hand on PM Narendra Modi’s shoulders and assured that it will continue even after November. PM Narendra Modi is on a three-day US tour and after meeting President Joe Biden, he participated in the Quad conference held in Wilmington, Delaware. Japanese PM Fumio Kishida and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese have also attended this conference.
The US is in the presidential election fray, in which Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are the front-runners. Japan’s PM Kishida has also announced not to contest the election. This means that in the next Quad Summit, only the Prime Ministers of India and Australia will be present as old leaders, while the US and Japan will be represented by new leaders.
PM Modi offered to host the Quad Leaders’ Summit in India in 2025. In his address, he shared that a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific region is the shared priority of the Quad. Modi said that we are meeting at a time when the world is surrounded by tensions and conflicts. In such a situation, it is important for the entire humanity that the members of the Quad move forward on the basis of shared democratic values.
This summit is not just a platform for strategic dialogue but also an opportunity to take collective decisions to address global challenges. PM Modi’s offer to host and Biden’s assurance raise hopes for the future of this group, even if there is a change in leadership in the upcoming elections. This is a crucial time for the role and future of the Quad, in which member countries will have to collectively focus on their priorities and commitments.
