There is a growing controversy across the country regarding the animal fat in the Prasad of Tirupati Balaji Temple.
After this, Vishwa Hindu Parishad i.e. VHP has announced a campaign on Tuesday to free temples across the country from government control.
Alleging corruption in the management of temples, VHP has said that taking control of temples by the government reflects the mentality of Muslim invaders and the British.
VHP has also said that now temples should be socialized and not governmentalized.
The VHP’s announcement came a day after the organisation organised a conference of saints in Tirupati and the temple board performed “purification rituals” to restore the sanctity of prasad.
On Tuesday, VHP joint general secretary Surendra Jain said at a press conference, “Governments are using temples to loot their wealth and give place to those politicians who could not find a place in the government.”
Rendra Jain said that adulteration of Prasad with animal fat has angered the entire Hindu community.
‘Society will manage temples under the guidance of saints’
On this occasion, VHP claimed that such reports of adulteration are coming from many other temples like Sabarimala in Kerala.
He called it a mockery of the sentiments of the Hindu society. Surendra Jain said, “A common link between all these incidents is that all these temples are under the control of governments. The only permanent solution to the problem is to free the temples from the control of governments and hand them over to the society. The society will manage the temples under the guidance of saints.”
If minorities can run their own institutions, why can’t Hindus- Surendra Jain
Surendra Jain termed the running of temples by governments as unconstitutional, saying, “Article 12 says the state has no religion.
Then who gave them the right to run the temple? Articles 25 and 26 give us the right to run our institutions. If minorities can run their institutions then why can’t Hindus.
There seems to be a pattern. Muslim invaders destroyed temples and looted them. The British were clever and took control of the temples.
In this way they established an institutional system for looting temples. Unfortunately, despite independence, our politicians could not free themselves from this colonial mentality.
The government’s control over temples reflects the same mentality. This looting must stop now.”
VHP will organize rallies in all states
Alleging corruption, Surendra Jain said there were more than 400 temples under the Tamil Nadu government alone and alleged that the state had shown a loss of Rs 50,000 crore in these temples in the last 10 years.
According to VHP, in the first phase of the campaign, the organization will hold protest rallies in all state capitals and submit a memorandum of demands to the Chief Ministers.
He said, “If needed, then legal steps will also be taken after that. And if this is not enough, then we can also start more agitations in the future.”
