Imphal. Tension continues in Jiribam district of Manipur. Here on Monday, suspected Kuki militants had taken three women and three children hostage. At the same time, bodies of three women were found in Jiribam district of Manipur on Friday, whose bodies were brought to a mortuary in Silchar, Assam. The bodies have not been identified yet.
Sources said the mortuary is at Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMHC), about 50 km from Jiribam. Sources said the bodies were brought to the mortuary at 7 pm on Friday, adding that post-mortem of bodies found in Jiribam is conducted at the SMHC due to lack of proper infrastructure in the city.
The three children taken hostage on Monday include an infant and a two-and-a-half-year-old child. The three hostage women also include a mother of two small children. All are from Meitei community. The investigation has started there. Security forces are also on alert regarding violence.
Search for missing people continues in Jiribam
Senior Manipur Police officials have been sent to Jiribam district to monitor the search operation to trace six people missing from the relief camp following the exchange of fire between militants and security forces at Borobekra in Jiribam. Officials said that IG and DIG rank officers along with security forces are present in Jiribam to search three women and three children.
At the same time, hundreds of people took to the streets in Chudachandrapur on Friday demanding justice for those killed in the encounter with security forces. Along with this, Manipur Congress has condemned the re-implementation of AFSPA in six police station areas of Manipur. State Congress chief Keesham Meghchandra has called it a failure of the government.
Solomona from Mizoram used to deliver illegal weapons to Manipur
The NIA has filed a charge sheet against an accused involved in smuggling of illegal arms and ammunition into Manipur and other states across the country. A charge sheet has been filed on Thursday against Mizoram resident Solomona alias Haminga alias Lalmithanga before the special NIA court. Solomona used to supply illegal weapons to Manipur. NIA had received information that some organizations based in Mizoram are part of a gang involved in smuggling of arms, ammunition, explosives etc. in the north-eastern region of the country.
