Mohammad Muizzu came close to India, China got a shock; the whole game changed like this…

India’s diplomacy has brought about a change in the attitude of Maldives.

If seen, Foreign Minister S Jaishankar’s visit to Maldives from 9 to 11 August was very fruitful. Last year, with the appointment of Mohammad Moizzu as President, an anti-India atmosphere was created there, but now the situation has changed once again.

President Moizzo has described India as his very close friend country. This is a setback for China, as Moizzo is considered pro-China.

Foreign affairs experts believe that this change in Maldives’ stance did not come just like that, but it is the wisdom of Indian diplomacy. When Moizzo’s party came to power in November last year, he started implementing his election agenda and was adamant about the withdrawal of Indian soldiers sent there for disaster management.

It also started, but India, showing its diplomatic acumen, continued its cooperation with Maldives.

Diplomatic talks were also held at various levels. But, there was no immediate change in the stance of Maldives. Because, Moizzu was considered close to China.

In such a situation, the change in his stance is naturally being considered a diplomatic success for India. However, experts say that it remains to be seen whether this change is permanent or temporary?

Maldives suffered a major setback when Modi visited Lakshadweep and after that the number of tourists visiting Maldives started declining. According to the Tourism Ministry of Maldives, the number of Indian tourists visiting there declined by 38 percent between January-March.

This caused huge economic loss to Maldives. Tourism is its main source of revenue. Meanwhile, Maldives’ economy also started deteriorating. In such a situation, it was expecting help from India.

Friendship with India is a compulsion for Moizzu

India has approved many development projects in Maldives. If India withdraws them, it may face problems for it, so Moizzu has no other option but to extend a hand of friendship.

During his visit, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar launched several schemes including credit line, UPI for water and sewage line in 28 islands. Several agreements were also signed between the two countries.

This also includes training one thousand top officers of Maldives in India.
