Paris Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said Saturday that a man attacked tourists near the Eiffel Tower in central Paris, killing one person and injuring two others.
Darminin told reporters that police arrested the 26-year-old French national using a sharp weapon.
The interior minister said the suspect had previously been sentenced to four years in prison in 2016 for planning an attack and was on a watch list of French security services, and that he suffers from mental disorders.

The accused attacked a tourist couple with a knife on the Quai de Grenelle, a few feet from the Eiffel Tower, injuring a German national.
He was then chased by police and attacked two other people with a hammer before being arrested.
