New Delhi . The Supreme Court has expressed displeasure over the non-implementation of the law related to control of medical services even after three years of its enactment. The Supreme Court also raised questions on why the Center did not even submit a reply despite the notice about a year ago. A bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Mishra has directed the Central and State Governments to take necessary steps to implement the provisions of the National Allied and Health Careers Commission Act, 2021 (NCAHP) by October 12. This law passed in Parliament in 2021 is to regulate education and services like medical and radiology labs, physiotherapy, nutrition science.
During the hearing on the petition seeking implementation of the law, the court said that the institutions of health and medical education are increasing and the law has been brought to stop their unbridled spread. Even after three years, the Center and the states have failed to fulfill their responsibility by not implementing the law. Only 14 states have formed councils but they are also inactive. During the hearing, Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Vikramjit Banerjee sought time to respond, then the CJI expressed displeasure and said that the notice was issued in September 2023, what have you done till now?
