National Democratic Alliance (NDA) leaders held an important meeting in New Delhi on Friday in which several issues were discussed.
The meeting was held at the residence of BJP President JP Nadda, in which the ongoing violence in Manipur and the One Nation One Election proposed by the Central Government were discussed.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, while discussing the situation in Manipur, said that the government is focusing on infrastructure development in the region and taking steps to control the violence.
Rijiju also said that the situation on the ground has improved though violence has continued in Manipur for the last one year.
The One Nation One Election scheme proposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was also discussed in the meeting. This scheme has been brought with the aim of holding the elections of Lok Sabha and state assemblies simultaneously.
BJP will have to get the support of its allies to implement this scheme.
Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav referred to the recommendations of the Parliamentary Standing Committee headed by E.M. Sudarshan Nachiappan in 2015, which stressed the advantages of holding simultaneous elections.
The committee had suggested that this would reduce the huge expenditure incurred in elections and end the policy paralysis caused by the code of conduct imposed during election time.
It was decided in the meeting that monthly meetings of NDA leaders will be held to discuss issues and review the ongoing activities at the state level.
A party leader suggested that the BJP leadership should also meet its partners individually to discuss state-specific issues.
However, Shiv Sena (Shinde) leaders were not present in this meeting but more than a dozen other allies participated.
These included parties like Apna Dal, Janata Dal (United), Janata Dal (Secular), Telugu Desam Party, Lok Janshakti Party and Tamil Maanila Congress.
