Kathmandu. Nepal PM KP Oli has stressed on the development of the country’s waterways and railways and the potential for increasing connectivity with India. At the annual progress review meeting, Oli asked civil servants to prepare a proposal to run steamer services from Hanuman Nagar to Triveni and Devghat near the Indian border. He said that despite Nepal having a law allowing steamer services since 1970, the infrastructure has not been used, which is unfortunate.
Oli said a port, a customs office and a visa centre should be built in Hanuman Nagar. Apart from waterways, Oli stressed the need to expand Nepal’s rail services and called for adding two railway lines to the existing Janakpur-Kurtha railway line.
