Kathmandu. The border dispute between Nepal and India now appears to be reaching a new turn. In fact, Nepal Rastra Bank, the central bank of Nepal, has given the contract to a Chinese company to print the new Rs 100 note with the revised political map of the country.
Changes in the design of new notes approved
According to the information, the Cabinet of Nepal has also approved the change in the design of this new note. The new political map was approved through an amendment to the Nepalese Constitution on June 18, 2020, recognizing Lipulekh, Kalapani and Limpiyadhura regions as part of Nepal. India has said on this territorial claim that it is artificial expansion and has called it destabilizing to relations. India has made it clear that the above areas are important to it and it claims them. The report claims that the contract has been awarded to China Banknote Printing and Minting Corporation after a competitive global tender process. Nepal Rastra Bank has requested the company to design, print, supply and distribute Rs 30 crore Rs 100 notes, the estimated cost of which is said to be around US$89.9 lakh. Meanwhile, there is news that Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is preparing to visit China very soon. This visit is proposed before the completion of 100 days of the new term of the government. This development has increased the possibility of increasing tension over the border dispute between Nepal and India, especially since Nepal has made changes in its political map.
