Netanyahu suddenly dismissed the Israeli Defense Minister, created an uproar… – NNSP

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu suddenly announced on Tuesday the dismissal of the country’s popular Defense Minister Yoav Galant.

Israel Katz, the current Foreign Minister, will be appointed the new Defense Minister and Gideon Sa’ar will replace Katz as the Foreign Minister.

Differences between Netanyahu and Gallant have arisen several times during the ongoing war in Gaza. However, Netanyahu refrained from firing him.

When Netanyahu tried to fire Gallant in March last year, there were demonstrations in the country against his move.

Prime Minister Netanyahu announced his decision late on Tuesday night. In a shock announcement, Netanyahu said he had lost confidence in Gallant over his management of Israel’s ongoing wars in Gaza and Lebanon.

“This trust has eroded over the past few months,” the Prime Minister said in a statement issued by his office. In view of this, I have decided to terminate the tenure of the Defense Minister today.” Shortly thereafter, Gallant said in a post on X that working to ensure Israel’s security “will always be my life’s mission.”

Netanyahu’s statement said, “My highest duty as Prime Minister of Israel is to protect Israel’s security and lead us to a decisive victory. During war, more than ever, complete trust between the Prime Minister and the Defense Minister is essential. “Although there was this trust between us initially and we achieved a lot in the initial months of the campaign, this trust between me and the Defense Minister has diminished in recent months.”

“Serious differences of opinion emerged between Gallant and me over the management of the campaign,” Netanyahu said. I made many attempts to bridge these differences, but they became wider and wider.

These issues became publicly known in an unacceptable way and, worse, were noticed by our enemies, who took advantage of the situation.”
