The person who spied on Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu for Hamas has been arrested.
The accused is said to be a close aide of Netanyahu and his top aide. The case is about leaking the documents of PM’s office and giving them to the European media.
However, opposition leaders in Israel alleged that the intelligence was “fake” and a ploy to sabotage the ceasefire and hostage agreements in Gaza.
This is the fifth arrest in this case by Israeli police. The names of the remaining accused have been kept secret for security reasons.
The investigation focuses on allegations that Gaza agreement documents were leaked from the Israeli Prime Minister’s office and disseminated to foreign media.
The documents claim that Hamas is planning to smuggle hostages from Gaza across the border to Egypt and is putting pressure on Netanyahu for the release of the hostages and a ceasefire agreement.
Opposition leaders in Israel have described the arrested accused Eliezer Feldstein as an ally of Netanyahu.
According to the documents, he is one of five suspects in the case of leaking of “confidential and sensitive intelligence information”.
On the other hand, Netanyahu’s spokesperson in the matter denied that any information was leaked from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
He further said that “the individual concerned never participated in any security-related discussions”. The PMO also ruled out the possibility that the leak of the documents would affect talks with Hamas for the release of hostages from Gaza.
Drone attacks on Israeli targets
Iraq’s Shia militia group has claimed responsibility for three drone attacks on Israeli targets amid direct fighting with Hamas and Hezbollah.
According to a statement from the group, its fighters carried out two drone strikes on “vital sites” in the Jordan Valley, which borders Jordan’s western border with Israel and the West Bank, and a third strike in the occupied Golan Heights.
The statements did not identify targeted sites or report any casualties. The group said the attacks were carried out ‘in solidarity with our people in Palestine and Lebanon’.
