What happened in the virtual meeting of ‘India’ alliance on Saturday? Sources said that Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had proposed Rahul Gandhi’s name as the President of India, but Congress leader Rahul Gandhi rejected it and when Chief Minister Nitish’s name was proposed for the post of convenor, the Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said that RJD chief Lalu Yadav would be a better choice as he is more senior.
Sources said when discussions began on the president of the 28-party alliance, Janata Dal (United) chief Chief Minister Nitish proposed Rahul Gandhi’s name.
But Rahul Gandhi refused saying that he is working at the grassroots level and his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra will take place.
The Congress leader proposed the name of party chief Mallikarjun Kharge for the top post of the alliance, which was supported by Sonia Gandhi.
Sitaram Yechury did it Nitish’s support
“The proposal had the support of several other parties and Kharge’s name is almost finalized for the post,” a source said.
Here, CPM General Secretary Sitaram Yechury proposed the name of Nitish Kumar for the post of Convenor, due to which the Bihar Chief Minister was reportedly angry at not getting it.
‘Lalu Yadav is a better option…’
Sources said Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was not showing much interest and said RJD chief Lalu Yadav would be a better option.
Rahul Gandhi again raised Nitish Kumar’s name and – getting support from some other parties – told that Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has some objections and discussion would be required.
Why did Mamata Banerjee not attend the meeting?
Refusing to disclose what the objections were, sources said Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and some Congress leaders have been appointed to talk to Mamata Banerjee, who did not attend the meeting, to resolve the issue.
Apart from the Trinamool Congress chief, other key allies like Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav and Shiv Sena (UBT)’s Uddhav Thackeray also did not attend the meeting.
Saturday’s meeting was held to discuss seat-sharing for the Lok Sabha elections. However, there was not much talk on this issue.
In a post on Twitter, Kharge said discussions on seat-sharing were progressing “in a positive manner” and he and Rahul Gandhi have invited all Indian parties to join the Bharat Jodo Nyaya Yatra.
‘Talks on seat sharing positive…’
Congress chief Kharge said that the leaders of India Coordination Committee held an online meeting today and had a meaningful discussion on the alliance.
Everyone is happy that the talks on seat sharing are progressing in a positive manner. We also discussed about joint programs by the Indian parties in the coming days.
He said, “I along with Rahul Gandhi invite all Indian parties to join the ‘Bharat Jodo Nyaya Yatra’ at their convenience and use the opportunity to raise the social, political and economic issues troubling the common people of this country. Did.”
