The strain in relations between India and Canada continues.
Only formal talks took place between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on the sidelines of the ASEAN Summit.
Canada termed this meeting as important, which India has completely rejected.
Government sources clarified that there was only a formal greeting between PM Modi and Justin Trudeau and no concrete talks took place.
Discussing Khalistani activities in Canada, Foreign Ministry sources said that India hopes that these activities going on on Canadian soil will be stopped.
Till now no concrete action has been taken by the Government of Canada on this issue, while these activities are promoting violence, extremism and terrorism against India.
India has warned Canada over the growing nexus of extremist elements and organized crime, drug trade and human trafficking, saying the situation should be a matter of concern for Canada itself.
According to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Justin Trudeau described the meeting as a brief conversation. “I emphasized that there are some things we need to do,” Trudeau said during a press conference in Laos.
“I don’t want to go into detail about what we discussed, but I said that protecting the safety of Canadians and upholding the rule of law is a fundamental responsibility of any Canadian government, and that’s what I stand by,” Trudeau said at a news conference in Vientiane. But I will keep my focus.”
It is noteworthy that the conversation took place almost a year after the incident when Trudeau had accused India of being involved in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar who had taken refuge in Canada.
India has repeatedly rejected these allegations as absurd and has said that relations with Canada can improve only when the Canadian government takes concrete and credible steps and takes action against those who are promoting anti-India activities. .
Let us tell you that in September 2023, after Justin Trudeau accused Indian agents of being involved in the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, India-Canada relations are going through the worst phase ever.
