The troubles of Nobel Peace Prize winner Nargis Mohammadi are not showing any signs of ending. He has once been sentenced to an additional 6 months in prison by Iranian authorities. A statement has come out from Free Nagaris Alliance, a group campaigning for human rights activist Nargis. He said Mohammadi was sentenced to an additional six months in jail on October 19 for disobeying orders and resisting orders.
According to the organization, this allegation was made after Nargis had protested against the hanging of another political prisoner in the women’s ward of Evin Jail on August 6.
She is the 19th woman to win the Peace Prize
Nargis Mohammadi Nargis is the 19th woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize and the second Iranian woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize, following human rights activist Shirin Ebadi in 2003.
Nargis has continued her activism despite years behind bars and arrests by Iranian authorities. Currently he is being kept in Evin jail of Iran. Let us tell you that political prisoners and people belonging to western countries live in this jail, in which she was already serving a sentence of 30 months, to which 15 more months were added in January.
What was the whole matter?
Nargis Mohammadi was detained in 2021 when she tried to visit a memorial for a man killed in nationwide protests in 2019 over rising gasoline prices. Despite being behind bars, Nargis Mohammadi’s courage did not break and she wrote an opinion piece for the New York Times. He has challenged the Iranian government many times on the basis of his articles.
Nargis was a leading beacon of women-led protests across the country that began last year following the death of the 22-year-old woman in police custody.
