Seoul. South Korea’s military claims that a few days ago Pyongyang vowed to cut off all inter-Korean roads and railways. According to one report, the North Korean People’s Army (KPA) talked about measures that would completely isolate North Korea from South Korea and said it had sent a telephone message to US forces in the South asking for any information on the fortification project. It has also been said to stop wrong decisions and accidental conflicts.
The Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said that following the announcement by the KPA on October 9, the North Korean military has been carrying out activities that are believed to be linked to the explosions on roads along the Gyeonggi and Donghae lines . A JCS spokesman said the military found that North Korea was installing cover on roads in preparation for the explosions. He said North Korea could carry out explosions on inter-Korean roads or promote other provocative activities. He said that if North Korea takes provocation, we will retaliate for the right of self-defense.
JCS said it is closely monitoring such activities taking place on the border and is exploring safety measures for the soldiers and South Korean people. The two countries are connected by roads and railways through the Gyeongui Line. The move comes at a time when North Korea is escalating inter-Korean tensions and erasing signs of unification, as its leader Kim Jong-un last year defined the Koreas as two hostile states and viewed it as It also took steps to eliminate routes seen as symbols of inter-Korean exchange and cooperation.
North Korea has removed street lamps and dug mines along Gyeonggi and Donghae roads as well as deployed troops to build suspected anti-tank barriers and erect barbed wire north of the demilitarized zone separating the two Koreas. North Korea claimed the South had sent unmanned drones over Pyongyang three times this month. North Korean dictator Kim Yo-jong’s sister warned that there would be dire consequences if South Korean drones were flown again the next day.
South Korea’s Defense Ministry declined to confirm the claim, citing strategic issues and warning that North Korea would see the end of its rule if it harmed the South Korean people. The army is fully prepared against provocation, as the North Korean army last night ordered artillery units on the border to be fully prepared for firing.
