The identity of Paris and the world-famous Notre-Dame Cathedral suffered heavy damage in a massive fire in 2019.
Now it has returned to its old glory. After five years of wait and hard work, this historical heritage will be reopened to the public next month i.e. on 7th December.
Hundreds of expert craftsmen contributed to the reconstruction of the cathedral. The project cost 500 million euros. In addition, savings of 140 million euros have been earmarked for the future safety and care of the building.
Musk shared a glimpse
Tesla and X owner Elon Musk shared a video of Notre-Dame on his platform, writing, “Notre-Dame has been restored.” Musk’s post once again presented the grandeur of the cathedral to the world.
New technology used in reconstruction
Every part of the cathedral has been glazed in the reconstruction. The old vines, previously covered with rust and lead dust, were cleaned and restored to their original construction site.
Besides, a new high-tech lighting system has also been installed, which has further enhanced the beauty of the building.
There was a fire in 2019 and there was a scene of devastation
On 15 April 2019, a fire broke out in the upper part of Notre-Dame, destroying the wooden roof and spire. Many artefacts and religious objects were also affected by the fire.
400 firefighters brought the fire under control after nine hours of hard work. Due to the fire, more than 150 kg of lead spread around, which also had a serious impact on the environment.
One of the most visited places in the world
Notre-Dame is one of the most visited sites in Europe.
Before the fire, 14-15 million people visited here every year.
It is expected that this number will increase further after its reopening. French President Emmanuel Macron had promised reconstruction within five years after the fire, which was implemented.
