Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has claimed that Ukrainian forces have captured 92 settlements in the Kursk region of western Russia.
Zelensky said on social media platform X on Monday that Ukrainian troops had seized more than 1,250 square kilometres of Russian territory.
“The Russian border area opposite our Sumy region has been almost completely liberated from Russian military presence,” he said, adding that Ukrainian troops continue their military operation in the designated areas of the Kursk region.
It is worth noting that Ukraine launched a military operation in the Kursk region on August 6. Ukrainian Armed Forces Chief Oleksandr Sirsky claimed on August 15 that his army had captured 82 settlements in the region.
Russian attacks continue in Ukraine too
On the other hand, a fuel and lubricant oil storage depot caught fire due to Russian targeted air strikes in the western Ternopil region of Ukraine on Tuesday morning. The regional official gave this information and said that there were no casualties in the attack.
According to the Ternopil regional military administration, Russian forces fired projectiles at an oil storage depot in the city of Ternopil at 3:00 a.m. local time.
He was told that more than 90 rescue teams and more than 20 pieces of equipment including two fire engines were used to control the fire. Local authorities, however, urged people to stay inside their homes and close the windows.
Putin is venting his anger by bombing Kiev
The Kiev city military administration said Russia also launched drone and cruise missile attacks on the capital overnight. However, there were no casualties in the attacks.
He said all aerial targets on the outskirts of the city were destroyed mid-air.
The Ukrainian air force said Russia fired 26 Shahed combat drones, two ballistic missiles Iskander M/KN-23, one cruise missile Iskander-K and several guided missiles Kh-59. According to the Interfax-Ukraine news agency, the Ukrainian air force shot down 25 drones, one cruise missile and two guided missiles in nine regions.
