Balkar Singh, Local Government Minister of Bhagwant Mann government in Punjab, is in trouble.
An allegedly objectionable video of him has surfaced. Shiromani Akali Dal on Wednesday demanded the dismissal of Local Government Minister Balkar Singh from Governor Banwari Lal Purohit and also appealed to the central agency to investigate the matter.
This is the second minister in the Bhagwant Mann government who is embroiled in such a case. Before this, last year there was an uproar in the politics of Punjab after an objectionable video of Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak with a young man went viral.
The Akali Dal delegation included senior Akali leaders Bikram Singh Majithia and Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema.
Bhagwant Maan This is the second minister of the government who is involved in such a case. Last year, there was an uproar in the politics of Punjab after an objectionable video of Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak with a young man went viral. In that case, Rajyapal had ordered the DGP to investigate.
Later, the victim youth presented the complaint before the investigation committee formed by the Punjab Police on the orders of the Governor and the SC Commission and refused to take any action.
The victim was intimidatedAkali leader Bikram Singh Majithia said that he has informed the Governor about the entire incident.
The Governor was told that the victim was intimidated, due to which she has not come forward to register a case against the minister.
He demanded that all other AAP ministers accused of involvement in criminal activities be also barred from hoisting the national flag on Republic Day.
The Chief Minister is protecting the minister.
Shiromani Akali Dal alleged that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was protecting the minister and expecting justice from him in this case would be meaningless.
Speaking to reporters, Majithia said he had informed the Chief Minister three months ago that he had an allegedly objectionable video of the minister and wanted to hand it over to him.
Despite this the Chief Minister did not meet him. The delegation said that there should be an independent investigation into the matter along with the dismissal of the minister.
Balkar Singh is a former DCP of Punjab Police.
The Bhagwant Mann government in its fourth cabinet expansion had included MLA Balkar Singh from Kartarpur assembly of Jalandhar.
Ministry of Local Body and Parliamentary Affairs was assigned.
Balkar Singh is a Dalit leader and represents the religious Sikh community.
He is a former DCP of Punjab Police and was considered an expert in solving crimes. Balkar Singh is also in-charge of Aam Aadmi Party in Jammu and Kashmir.
