America’s presidential election is over. Republican candidate Donald Trump has won.
At the same time, Democrat leader Kamala Harris, who was the Vice President, had to face defeat.
Trump’s election victory was history-making in many ways, whereas defeating Harris was not the case for the first time. She would have been the country’s first black and South Asian female president.
Trump is the oldest person
At the age of 78, Trump is the oldest person to be elected to the post of US President.
When he is sworn in on January 20, 2025, he will be a few months older than Joe Biden, who will be sworn in in 2020. Trump’s running mate JD Vance, 40, will be the third youngest vice president.
For the second time no one won two consecutive terms
Many American presidents have served more than one term and Trump also joins this group. He was the 45th President and will now be the 47th.
But only one other president has served as long a term as Trump. He was Grover Cleveland, who served as the 22nd President after the 1884 election and as the 24th President after the 1892 campaign.
convicted of serious crimes
Trump is in line to become the first US president to be convicted of a serious crime.
In May, a New York jury found him guilty on all 34 charges of conspiring to illegally influence the 2016 election by paying off a porn actor to keep quiet, who the two said also had an affair with.
impeached twice
Trump is already the only president in American history to face impeachment proceedings twice while in office.
In each case, he was acquitted by the Senate on all counts.
