On the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of the great freedom fighter and popular leader Lord Birsa Munda, the Central Government on Friday announced the renaming of Delhi’s Sarai Kalekhan ISBT Chowk as Birsa Munda Chowk. Union Urban Development Minister Manohar Lal Khattar announced the change of name of the Chowk. Tribal Pride Day is being celebrated across the country on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Lord Birsa Munda. The central government had announced to celebrate Munda’s birth anniversary as Tribal Pride Day in the year 2021. On this occasion, many programs are also being organized across the country.
Reached Jamui after laying the foundation stone of AIIMS in Darbhanga
Earlier today, Union Home Minister Amit Shah unveiled the grand statue of Lord Birsa Munda on his 150th birth anniversary at Bansera Park near Sarai Kale Khan in the capital Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself is reaching Jamui in Bihar to celebrate Tribal Pride Day. PM Modi will participate in an event organized on this occasion in a remote village in Jamui district, about 200 km from the capital Patna. This is PM Modi’s second visit to Bihar in less than a week. Earlier last Wednesday, he had laid the foundation stone of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Darbhanga. Jamui district borders Jharkhand state, where assembly elections are being held.
Announcement of new projects for the upliftment of tribal communities
PM Modi will unveil a commemorative coin and postage stamp in honor of Birsa Munda today in Jamui. He will also inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of several development projects worth more than Rs 6,640 crore for the upliftment of tribal communities and improvement of infrastructure in rural and remote areas of the region. Union Food Processing Industries Minister Chirag Paswan showed his enthusiasm on PM Modi’s visit. Paswan has been a Lok Sabha member from Jamui twice.
Birsa Munda was born in 1875
Birsa Munda was a great freedom fighter and the people of the tribal community lovingly give him the status of God. His birth anniversary is celebrated as Tribal Pride Day. Birsa Munda was born in 1875 in Ulihatu, a tribal area of Bihar. He united the tribals by warning them against British colonial rule and unpleasant activities like religious conversion.
