Trichy. There was a stir in the area after the police found a rocket launcher near Andanallur temple located on the banks of Kaveri river in Trichy district of Tamil Nadu. The incident came to light when devotees who had come to visit the temple said that they had seen an unusual object, which later turned out to be a rocket launcher. After the information, the police immediately reached the spot and saw a blue and black colored object, which was said to be a rocket launcher. The police also called the bomb disposal squad to the spot and tried to control the situation around the temple from security point of view.
Police said the rocket launcher has been assigned to the 117 Infantry Battalion of the Indian Army, and a detailed investigation is underway. Officials said the location from which the rocket launcher came is being investigated and the matter is being investigated from all possible angles. According to sources, the incident comes in the context of central agencies warning that the LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam) is trying to re-establish its dominance in Tamil Nadu. State governments have been informed that many suspicious elements are entering India from Sri Lanka through water route, which has also increased the possibilities of arms smuggling.
