New York City police have arrested a man who allegedly killed two people and seriously injured a third in a knife attack in Manhattan. Officials gave this information on Tuesday.
According to the New York Police Department (NYPD), the attack occurred on Monday morning. A 36-year-old man was stabbed at 8.20 am. The attack occurred at a construction site where the man was working on 19th Street. About two hours after the first attack, a 68-year-old man died after being stabbed multiple times on East 30th Street. The third attack took place at around 11 am. A woman was stabbed on 42nd Street in Midtown. The woman’s condition was critical and she was admitted to a nearby hospital.
Police said they recovered blood-stained kitchen knives used in the attack. New York Police Chief Joseph Kenny said that two innocent people have been killed in these attacks and a woman is fighting for her life. Police believe that no other attacker was involved in this attack. The accused (51 years old) lived in a shelter on East 30th Street. He went near them and suddenly started attacking with the knife. Police said that the accused was caught on 46th Street. He is now in custody in the police station.
Regarding this, New York Mayor Eric Adams said in the press conference, this is a clear example of how our criminal justice system and mental health system are failing New Yorkers.
